'Valorant' release date: Full details on game announcement, including new items and maps

Sporting News — (Dan Bernstein)

Not even "Valorant" creator Riot Games could have foreseen the instant smash hit its game would be before its full release. The same day the beta came out last month, it matched the all-time streaming viewership record for Twitch.

For a first-person shooter entering a crowded market, the reception has been remarkable. It appears the game could have the rare crossover appeal of drawing in casual gamers and competitive pros. The decision to release the beta on a limited basis, requiring users to obtain a special key to access it, seems to have spurred interest.

On Thursday, Riot Games announced its launch date for the final game: June 2. It will be free to play.

What date will the full 'Valorant' game be released?

"Valorant" will be released on June 2 for free download to all users. At this point, it's a PC-exclusive title.

"Our goal has always been to bring Valorant to as much of the world as soon as possible, so we're hyped to be able to do so on June 2,” said executive producer Anna Donlon. "The team looks forward to starting our decades-long commitment to servicing the global Valorant community. This is just the beginning of our journey together."

Does the full 'Valorant' game have new maps or weapons?

An assortment of new items will drop on June 2 with the full release of the game. That includes a new game mode (possibly deathmatch, though that's unconfirmed), a new map and new agent.

Riot Games is also implementing additional servers worldwide in an effort to limit latency.

Does rank progression carry over from the beta?

No player progress from the beta will carry into the regular game, meaning all rankings and accomplishments reset. This levels the playing field for those who weren't able to get the beta.
