Jan. 09-- How easy it is to get into a fitness rut, said she who finds her way into one with ease. And how tricky to elbow your way out of that comfort zone, agreed she who isn't very good at such action.

That said, what better day than today-the start of a brand new year and still early goings of January-to take the bull by the horns! Plunge in. Dive in. Go for it.

There are classes to be taken, new routes to be explored. There are workouts to attempt, exercises to give a whirl, equipment to test, people to meet up with for a hike or a run or a yoga or spin class.

You'll shake up your muscles and your mind, improve your fitness, create new neural pathways in your brain.

You game? Me too, she said, squeezing her eyes shut and nodding vigorously. I'm going to actually follow a training program for an upcoming race-maybe even a 5K instead of much longer distance. And use the rowing machine more. And-well, all sorts of things. What are you going to do this year that's new?
