A rally in protest of recent police shootings of unarmed black men drew as many as 300 downtown Tuesday evening. The rally was followed by a nearly three-hour march that made its way through downtown, Over-the-Rhine and the West End before briefly shutting down I-75 as protesters streamed onto the highway.

Authorities in Hamilton County routinely and unconstitutionally arrest and detain children without proper evidence that they committed a crime, according to a federal lawsuit seeking an immediate end to the practice. The Hamilton County juvenile court and detention systems also process black juveniles at much higher rates than whites, according to the lawsuit filed late Sunday by the Children's Law Center in Covington, Kentucky, near Cincinnati.

A 12-year-old boy was fatally shot by police in Cleveland after brandishing what turned out to be a replica gun, triggering an investigation into his death and a legislator's call for such weapons to be brightly colored or bear special markings. The boy, identified by the Cuyahoga County medical examiner as Tamir Rice, died from his wounds Sunday, a day after officers responded to a 911 call about someone waving a "probably fake" gun at a playground.

A variance granted this week to a Cincinnati abortion clinic allowing it to remain open is the first one granted by the Ohio Department of Health. The agency has not yet decided another variance request, this one from the Women's Medical Center of Dayton, said department spokeswoman Melanie Amato.
